On July 10th, our second Public Space Potluck of the summer brought together a dedicated group of urban enthusiasts at a hidden gem in midtown, 6 1/2 Avenue that is.

Co-hosted with the Friends of Privately Owned Public Space, the event was designed to offer a full experience of the 6 1/2 Avenue's unique structure, which stretches between 51st and 57th Streets, linking six privately-owned public spaces (POPS) together.

We met at 6 1/2 Avenue and 51st Street, and walked along the Avenue to the POPS at 56th Street for our potluck. It was an evening full of great conversations and food ranging from refreshing salads and fruits, to cold cuts, pulled chicken and cheesecake. It was highlighted that 6 1/2 Avenue and other POPS in the Midtown were such invaluable assets especially for people who work in the area and seek a quite and pleasant place to take a break during the day. The need for more usable public space across the city was the verdict in many of the conversations at the night.

It was in true potluck-style in every way, sharing not only great food but also ideas and opportunities for the future of NYC's public space.
