We celebrated the launch of our new book, Five Borough Farm II: Growing the Benefits of Urban Agriculture in New York City, at a vibrant breakfast on Thursday, March 27. Over 60 stakeholders attended the book launch at the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation Arsenal Building

Published in partnership with the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation, the Five Borough Farm II book is an invaluable ‘how-to’ reference guide to urban farming and gardening. Parks’ First Deputy Commissioner Liam Kavanaugh welcomed the farmers and gardeners, funders, and policymakers present, and introduced Design Trust executive director Susan Chin, who recapped the goals and achievements of the second phase of our Five Borough Farm project. Representatives from various city agencies and Senator Kristin Gillibrand’s office came to show their support for the project.

The breakfast also served as the official announcement of Phase III of the Five Borough Farm project in collaboration with Farming Concrete. The final phase will implement a primary recommendation in Phases I & II of the project, providing tools, methods and assistance for quality data collection and sustainable funding models for urban agriculture in NYC.

With Five Borough Farm Phase III, the Design Trust will equip a large number of farmers and gardeners with the first, publically accessible Data Collection Toolkit to measure the great things growing from their work.
