Boogie Down Booth in Bronx*

Join us on Friday, May 15, 7:30 – 8:30 pm, as experts discuss the vast potential of underneath spaces at The Cooper Union as part of NYCxDesign.

Panelists will talk about how to optimize, reclaim and transform the space beneath NYC’s nearly 700 miles of bridges, highways, subway tracks and rail lines. Changes in the illumination, sound and spatial arrangement along these underused areas can reshape the atmosphere of entire neighborhoods.

The speakers include our project partner DOT's Neil Gagliardi, our project fellows Susannah Drake and Chat Travieso, and Design Trust program director Rosamond Fletcher. Architecture critic and journalist James S. Russell, FAIA  will moderate the conversation.

Learn more about Under the Elevated.

*For six months in 2014, we enlivened a street corner below the elevated 2/5 subway tracks in the Bronx with a pop-up installation called “The Boogie Down Booth.” Created as the second prototype for our Under the Elevated project, the Booth was designed and produced by our project team, in partnership with the NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) and local community partner the Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation (WHEDCo), to test ways that the public spaces below elevated bridges, highways, subway, and rail lines can be improved.
