Visit the first Under the Elevated installation on Division Street under the Manhattan Bridge from April 24 - June 30, 2014!

In collaboration with the Chinatown Partnership, Design Trust Fellows Chat Travieso and Neil Donnelly have transformed the Manhattan Bridge underpass on Division and Forsyth Streets into a new gateway for Chinatown.

The installation spans the entire landing of the bridge, and provides three distinct experiences for viewers. The first describes the Under the Elevated project in detail and maps the six additional project sites throughout the five boroughs. The second is an interactive community calendar that invites organizations to post events for residents and visitors to Learn, Play, Eat, See and Connect in the neighborhood. And the third asks you to provide feedback on the installation itself- so you can tell us and the Department of Transportation what you'd like to see under the Manhattan Bridge in the future. Last but definitely not least, red lights installed at the base of the bridge dramatically brighten the otherwise dark underpass at night.

This installation is the first of three site-specific prototypes designed by the Under the Elevated project team. The team will observe how people interact with these temporary installations to inform their recommendations for use in the long-term.
