Problems and Possibilities is a comprehensive plan that addresses the key quality of life issues related to the management and design of the streetscape at the Crossroads of the World.

“We are all aware of the great strides that have been made in Times Square over the past decade,” says Tim Tompkins, president of the Times Square Alliance. “But with the increased diversity of uses in the neighborhood have come increasing problems – from an unattractive streetscape unworthy of a world-class public space to pedestrian overcrowding which creates a public safety hazard."

The report draws on the work of Design Trust fellow Michael Fishman, as well as on proposals generated during the Design Trust workshop series Times Square: Streetscape Improvement. Working with "an eclectic mix of designers, urbanists, artists, planners and public servants," notes Tompkins, helped "to make this report as insightful and pro-active as possible. ‘Problems and Possibilities,’ is honest about the area’s problems and resourceful in suggesting practical solutions.”
