Sustainable New York City

Building on our reputation as a leader in improving New York City’s environment, in 2005 the Design Trust for Public Space sponsored Sustainable New York City, a program designed to make the case for environmental practices in our city and region and for enlightened municipal resource management nationwide. Our partner in this effort was the New York City Office of Environmental Coordination.

With the High Performance Building Guidelines and its sister publication, the High Performance Infrastructure Guidelines, the Design Trust has created a catalogue of highly efficient, non-polluting construction techniques and materials that can be used by New York City agencies and the private sector. Using a case-study approach, Sustainable New York City shows how those techniques and materials have been, and can continue to be, integrated in everyday planning and operations in New York and elsewhere.
