The Trust for Public Land (TPL) is a national, nonprofit, land conservation organization that conserves land for people to enjoy as parks, community gardens, historic sites, rural lands, and other natural places, ensuring livable communities for generations to come. Since 1972, TPL has worked to create and preserve urban parks, gardens, greenways, and riverways; build livable communities by earmarking open space as a buffer to development; conserve land for watershed protection, scenic beauty and recreation; and safeguard the character of communities by preserving historic landmarks and landscapes. Today, nearly ten million people live within a ten-minute walk of a Trust for Public Land park, garden, or natural area, and millions more visit these sites every year.
