Residents of Lillian Wald Houses give feedback on the Opening the Edge Project during the Wald Family Day event

On Saturday August 10, Design Trust staff and Fellows from the Opening the Edge project, Jane Greengold and Emmanuel Oni, attended the annual Wald Houses Family Day event, hosted by NYCHA Lillian Wald Houses and organized by Tenant Association President, Freddina Fulton.

The Lillian Wald Houses in the Lower East Side was abuzz with celebratory vibes complete with music, food, games and information kiosks as residents came together for the Wald Family Day event. This was a great opportunity for Design Trust Fellows, Jane Greengold and Emmanuel Oni and Design Trust Staff to engage with residents and Community Design Team members on the recent developments of the project. We would like to thank Freddina Fulton for organizing this successful event and inviting us to take part.

________

Last month, New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson and Council Member Carlina Rivera allocated $680,000 in the FY20 City Capital Budget for the Opening the Edge prototype installation at the NYCHA Lillian Wald Houses — a project proposed by Brooklyn-based artist @janegreengold, in partnership with @NYCHA as well as Lillian Wald House residents and Lower East Side community members. We are truly grateful to everyone who has helped us on this groundbreaking project, including Design Trust Board, staff and Fellows, and especially to our elected officials, Speaker Johnson and Council Member Rivera, and their staffs for this tremendous investment in our unprecedented effort with and for the NYCHA Lillian Wald residents.
