We are thrilled to announce that The Boogie Down Booth, our temporary installation below the elevated 2/5 subway tracks in the Bronx, has been designated a "Project That Ignites" by the Municipal Arts Society.

The Booth is one of three unique urban interventions to earn this special designation from the Municipal Arts Society based on its potential to "positively transform the city." Designed and produced by the Design Trust's team of Fellows for our current Under the Elevated project [in partnership with the NYC Department of Transportation and the Women's Housing and Economic Development Corporation], the Booth capitalizes on the rich heritage of music in the Bronx as a clever way to counteract the sound pollution caused by the rumbling trains above. Using directional speakers and a playlist curated by the Bronx Music Heritage Center, the Booth enlivens public space with music while providing a place to rest and lighting at night (powered by solar panels on the roof).

Representing the project at the Jane Jacobs Forum on October 23rd will be Design Trust Fellow Chat Travieso, the Director of Urban Design for the NYC Department of Transportation Neil Gagliardi, and WHEDco's Director of Community Development Kerry McLean. The Forum is part of the 2014 MAS Summit, and you can register to attend this free evening event here

And, if you haven't yet had a chance to experience the Boogie Down Booth for yourself – it will be installed until November 18th at the corner of Southern Boulevard and Freeman Street in the Bronx. Go boogie down in the Bronx!
