The J.M. Kaplan Fund was pivotal in the history of the Design Trust as its first funder. The Fund's initial investment has helped transform underused public space and our city's landscape into vibrant, dynamic and sustainable parks, plazas, streets, taxis and more for all New Yorkers and millions of visitors.
Public space is vital because it is essential infrastructure – like clean water and good transportation; we must invest in public space to grow sustainable, healthy, and economically vital neighborhoods, or what J.M. Kaplan would have called, 'a more ideal society'.
