On May 20th, 2006, the Design Trust for Public Space and the Long Island City Cultural Alliance hosted a rousing celebration of Long Island City: Connecting the Arts, a new publication exploring New York’s most vibrant arts-and-industrial community.

Our book-release party — part of the Long Island City arts weekend during Discover Queens Month — was held at SculptureCenter, one of the nine major arts organizations that calls Long Island City home.

A must-read for anyone interested in the intersection of New York’s creative and manufacturing sectors, the publication defines Long Island City’s unique character as a springboard for neighborhood development.

This ground-breaking book presents innovative analysis and recommendations developed by three Design Trust fellows over the course of Long Island City: Connecting the Arts, our collaborative project with the Long Island City Cultural Alliance.
