Executive
Director
Deborah Marton, Executive Director
Ms. Marton has dedicated her career to the
development of public space in New York City.
She began her association with the Design Trust
in 2002, as a fellow on Thresholds
of Eib's Pond Park 2, and joined as Executive
Director in 2004. Previously, Ms. Marton was
Program Manager of New York City Parks Natural
Resources Group and later associated with the
landscape architecture firm Field Operations,
where she served as Project Manager for the Fresh
Kills Master Plan. She received a Masters in
Landscape Architecture from the Harvard University
Design School and also holds a J.D. from New
York University School of Law.

Senior Staff
Megan Canning, Deputy Director
Before joining the Design Trust in 2005, Ms. Canning
worked for Nancy Rosen, an independent art advisor in Manhattan,
where she coordinated collection development and art program
implementation for private clients, corporate collections,
public agencies, and not-for-profit institutions. In 2003,
Ms. Canning was the Director of the Douglas Dibble Memorial
Art Auction, which included over 700 artworks, 150+ volunteers,
and successfully raised $65,000 for the Wallace Evelyn
Dibble Scholarship Fund. Ms. Canning received her Masters
in Fine Arts in Painting from Hunter College and holds
a Bachelor in Fine Arts in Art Education from Ohio University. She is a practicing visual artist with a studio in Brooklyn.
Stephanie Elson, Director of Programs
Stephanie has a strong background in environmental planning, public policy and sustainable community design. She is a graduate of Brown University’s Center for Environmental Studies, where she received her MA. While at Brown, Stephanie worked with Senator Lincoln Chafee's Rhode Island staff on issues related to RI environmental planning. In 2004, Stephanie worked as an independent community development consultant for the town of Campton, New Hampshire, where she created a dynamic Geographic Information System to aid with town planning. Prior to her graduate studies, Stephanie spent several years working to improve New York City's public parks and open spaces at the parks advocacy organization, New Yorkers for Parks.
Lawrence Horne, Director of Development
Mr. Horne has over two decades of experience in non-profit development and administration.
Most recently, he served as Associate Executive Director of Development at the
Hetrick-Martin Institute in New York. Previously, he was Director of Planning
and Development at The Public Theater, Director of Development at California
State University, Los Angeles and Senior Development Officer for the School of
Arts and Humanities at Claremont Graduate University. In addition, he was founder
and Executive Director of the Los Angeles International Gay & Lesbian Film
Festival (now known as Outfest) from 1982 to 1995. Mr. Horne has an M.A. in Film
History and Theory from UCLA, and studied at the American Center for Cinema Studies
and the University of Paris IV (Sorbonne) in Paris.
