2008 Event: "Quasi-Public: Paul Goldberger and Danny Meyer in Conversation"
The second event of the Design Trust Council took place on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at the New Museum; cocktails and private viewing of the galleries at 6:00 p.m., followed by the speakers at 7:00 p.m. Pulitzer-prize winning author and architecture critic for The New Yorker, Paul Goldberger, was joined by restaurateur, author, and civic activist Danny Meyer for a conversation about how modern-day patterns of work and recreation will give form to new public and quasi-public spaces.

"Quasi-Public" picked up where the first event left off and asked these questions: what will follow the current trend of international retail chains and banks replacing diverse small retailers and light industries? Are there models from the hospitality, technology or design sectors that could inspire new uses that will diversify the street wall?

Read or hear what Paul Goldberger and Danny Meyer talked about -- their entire conversation, along with audience questions, is now available as a transcript and as a podcast. Download the PDF. Listen to the mp3.

2007 Inaugural Event: "Gothamitis: Malcolm Gladwell and Adam Gopnik in Conversation"
The inaugural event of the Design Trust Council took place May 2, 2007 in the Founders Room at the Museum of Modern Art. Cultural phenomenon Malcolm Gladwell (The Tipping Point, Blink) was joined by fellow New Yorker magazine writer Adam Gopnik (Through the Children's Gate, Paris to the Moon), in a lively and provocative conversation entitled "Gothamitis." Keen observers of New York civic life, Gladwell and Gopnik approached the topic of "Gothamitis" -- what current development trends mean for the soul of our city -- from different perspectives.

Listen to what Malcolm Gladwell and Adam Gopnik talked about -- their entire conversation, along with audience questions, is now available as a podcast. Download the mp3.
